Florida Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs) renew every two years. Current licenses expire at midnight ET on March 31, 2027. Here is what Chapter 491, Florida Statutes, and Rule 64B4-6.001, Florida Administrative Code, require, in plain language.
No more than 6 of the 30 hours may be non-clinical or administrative topics.
If this is your first renewal after initial licensure, you are exempt from the 30 hour requirement. Before licensure, you generally completed 8 hours of laws and rules and 3 hours of HIV/AIDS, and you must complete 2 hours of domestic violence within six months after licensure.
Every renewal includes 2 hours on preventing medical errors, covering root-cause analysis, error reduction and patient safety. The course must come from a provider approved for medical errors training.
Each renewal needs 3 hours on professional ethics and boundary issues or on telehealth. You may not repeat the same course in back-to-back renewal periods, so many counselors alternate the two topics.
Every third renewal after initial licensure, you need 3 hours on Florida laws and rules and 2 hours on domestic violence. Both count inside your 25 general hours. Check your CE Broker transcript to see which cycle you are in.
If you are a Qualified Supervisor, every third biennium you need 4 hours of supervision training under Rule 64B4-6.0025(4). Topics include law changes, ethics and documentation, teletherapy and the business side of supervision.
Our 4 Hour QS Renewal Course meets this requirement and counts toward your 30 hours. Not a QS yet? See our 12 Hour Qualified Supervisor Training.
Complete the remaining general hours with courses from approved providers. The Board checks your hours through CE Broker when you renew, so make sure every course appears there before March 31, 2027. Browse our 49 Online CE Courses. We report your CEUs to CE Broker within 24 hours.
